Bollywood movies have time and again honoured numerous achievements the country has made over the last 70 years. Similarly, they have highlighted stories of different people from different walks of life who have contributed to India’s struggle for freedom. This Republic Day, we present before you some of the must-watch Bollywood movies based on different aspects of patriotism.

Directed by Kabir Khan, this movie is based on a dramatized plot where a soldier is hired to avenge the aftermaths of 26/11, an incident that had shaken the sovereignty of the country. The movie starring Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif and Sabyasachi Mukherjee went on to gross $12.1 million at the box office. Hence, Phantom is a thriller recommended to binge this Republic Day.
Ths 2016 political thriller was directed by Raja Krishnan Menon. The movie falls on the lines of the famous evacuation of Indians from Kuwait during the Gulf War of 1990. Akshay Kumar plays Ranjit Katyal, a Kuwait based NRI who takes the center stage in executing the evacuation.
Tiger Zinda Hai
This Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is the sequel to the 2012 Blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger. This movie marked the comeback of the iconic duo of Salman Khan- Katrina Kaif on the silver screen after five years. The film follows the journey of Tiger and Zoya who respond to their national call following the abduction of Indian and Pakistani nurses by the infamous terror organization of the ISIL.
Another must-watch for the Republic Day is this 2018 spy thriller. It stars Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, this movie is adapted from Harinder Sikka’s novel “Calling Sehmat”. One of the biggest grosser of that year, Raazi was based on a Research and Analysis Wing agent (Bhatt) who was sent on a secret mission to Pakistan post her wedding to a Pakistani army officer (Kaushal).
Section 375: Marzi Ya Zabardasti
Directed by Ajay Bahl, the movie stars Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chaddha playing barristers who serve as defense and prosecutor attorneys in a courtroom. The movie deals with the provisions of Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code that determines conditions that define any form of sexual offense as rape.
URI: The Surgical Strike
Written and directed by Debutante Aditya Dhar, this movie is a fictionalized adaptation of India’s retaliation to the infamous URI attacks of 2016. Vicky Kaushal’s performance as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, the commander of the surgical strike, earned him a National Award in the category of Best Actor.
Another stellar performance by Akshay Kumar under the direction of Anurag Singh. Kesari narrates the contributions of the memorable clan Sikh Soldiers during the Battle of Saragarhi, a battle fought to chase the Afridi and Pashtun invaders away from the country.
Anubhav Sinha directed this 2019 crime drama to re-establish the importance of Article 15 listed in the Constitution of India. The law condemns discrimination of all forms. Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of a virtuous cope sent on a mission to punish the predators of the distinct village engaged in heinous crimes such as rape of minor girls. The plot of the movie draws inspiration from the 2014 Badaun gang-rape incidents and the 2016 Una flogging incident.
The 1962 Sino-Indian War and the 1967 1967 Nathu La and Chola clashes have conceived the idea behind this movie. Directed by J.P. Dutta, the movie stars an ensemble cast of Jackie Shroff, Arjun Rampal, Gurmeet Choudhary, Sonu Sood, Harshvardhan Rane, and other talented actors. This movie talks about the lives of the Bravehearts who valiantly fought for the dignity of their motherland during the external threat.
This 2018 science drama by Jagran Shakti is based on India’s successful Mars Orbiter Mission. The Mangalyaan project is known for having a team of notable women scientists behind its execution. Through the likes of Vidya Balan, Nithya Menen, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, and Kirti Kulhari, this adaptation has been displayed on the silver screen. Akshay Kumar features as the Project Commander. Sharman Joshi and Vikram Gokhale play supporting roles. To commemorate the Republic Day, watch India’s journey on to be the fourth country to invade Mars’s orbit on its very first attempt.
