Time and again, we have seen classic Hollywood films being remade in Bollywood. Our filmmakers have been in awe of Hollywood cinema that they couldn’t help but reprise several such scripts in India. Such films include the 2014 Superhit Bang Bang (inspired from Knight and Day), the 2007 Comedy Partner (remake of Hitch) and many more.
Similarly, certain Bollywood scripts were innovative enough that their plots were an inspiration to several Hollywood flicks. Let’s have a look at 6 well-known films adapted from Hindi cinema:
1. Win A Date With Tad Hamilton (2004) – Rangeela (1995)
Rangeela was a superhit romantic comedy starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar and Jackie Shroff in the lead. This Ram Gopal Varma directed has been an inspiration behind the American movie Win A Date With Tad Hamilton starring Kate Bosworth, Topher Grace, and Josh Duhamel. The story revolved around a love triangle between a young woman, her childhood buddy and a movie star.
2. Fear (1996) – Darr (1993)
Darr was a cult classic by Yash Chopra featured Shah Rukh Khan as an obsessive psycho lover. However, a Hollywood adaptation to this movie released three years later. The title itself was similar to the original movie. Besides, the iconic scene where Khan carves his ladylove’s name on his chest was recreated by Mark Wahlberg.
