Unless you are not living under a rock, there’s no way you have not heard about BB Ki Vines. But have you ever wondered how did it came to be?
Bhuvan Bam, the man himself, is an Indian comedian, singer, songwriter, and YouTube personality from Delhi, India. In 2018, Bam became the first Indian individual YouTube content creator to cross 10 million subscribers.
Born and brought up in Delhi, he was initially singing in bars. He studied at Green Fields School, New Delhi. And went on to earn his bachelor’s degree at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, New Delhi. He has been entertaining people and doing comedy since school days. He made some random videos which were loved by his closed relatives.
The First Video
The very first video he uploaded on YouTube was “The Chakhna Issue” which didn’t gather enough views on his page. It grossed only 10 to 15 views. But it couldn’t stop him to climb the ladder of success.
The First Break
His first big break was by a video satirizing a reporter. The reporter was asking witless questions from a mother who had lost her child during 2015 Kashmir Floods. The reporter’s silly questions irritated him. He then felt the need to do something in his own style and uploaded the video on Facebook.
The video shot up and went viral all across the country and to date marks as turning point in Bhuvan’s career. It was watched by more than 15 thousand people and and likes on his Facebook page multiplied in a single night.
As BB just kept uploading videos, their crisp punchlines and timely dialogue people started imitating his characters. The secret to his huge popularity is in his different writing skills and originality. His comic sketches resemble the personal experience of many people and he shares stories about daily family consequences.
He became the face of “vines” in India . In less than a year, he became the first Indian YouTuber to hit 2 million subscribers.
Controversy And Criticism
He received criticism by many people for his 18+ contents and abusive language used in videos. But there are many who came in support for him. According to the supporters, this is the way youth talks these days in Delhi and he is showing nothing but uncensored reality.
Controversy came with his video titled ‘Papa Makichu’ – which was reported by musician Tahir Shah as a copyright infringement. Bhuvan later went online and asked his fans to reach out to Tahir Shah and inbox him to remove the claim.
He started getting recognized and won many accolades.
Bhuvan Bam won the honour for the Most Popular Channel on YouTube at the WebTVAsia Awards 2016 held in Seoul, South Korea. He was congratulated by the Hindustan Times at the main version of their Game Changer Awards and later in 2019. Recently, he won the ‘Global Entertainer of The Year 2019’ grant for his brilliant commitment to digital amusement.
Within an year, the channel hit the 2 million subscriber count. And 2 years later he becomes the first Indian Youtuber to surpass 10 million subscribers. As of February 2019, Bhuvan Bam’s YouTube channel has 12.53 million subscribers and has amassed over 1.57 billion views.
In October 2016, Bhuwan Bam collaborated with The Viral Fever for an episode of Bachelors vs. Landlords and announced his arrival in the industry.
BB eventually pursued his passion for music and released his first music video ‘Sang Hoon Tere’, which was liked by his fans. He later came up with songs like ‘Teri Meri Kahani’ and ‘Safar’. His latest music video is ’Rahguzaar’.
He also tried his hands in Stand Up Comedy last year. Featuring in Sapan Verma’s One Mic Stand, his set was liked by everyone.
His first short film, Plus Minus won Filmfare for Best Short Film.
