4. KD (2019)

The unusual plot follows an 80-year old man who was in coma for three months, suddenly wakes up and overhears his family planning to kill him by performing an ancient euthanasia ritual. He also meeta a little boy who helps him live life to the fullest.
This aspect may even remind you of Pixar’s Up, but this one is an adventure that is more personal and closer to life.
It is a feel good and at times bittersweet film, that shouldn’t be missed.

5. Mersal (2017)

Maaran, a doctor, is falsely arrested for the murder of his colleague, Dr Arjun Zachariah. He soon discovers that the real culprit is a lookalike who aims to expose corruption in the medical industry.
The tamil film’s highlight is showcasing of Vijay’s hero avatar in a triple role. Vijay holds the film together and is riveting in each of the roles. Mersal also has subtle political messaging.
On the whole, Mersal is an entertainer which keeps you engrossed.

6. Mehandi Circus (2019)

The film follows a music shop owner falling in love with a girl from a circus troupe that visits his village. However, caste and class stand in their way.

7. Oththa Seruppu Size 7 (2019)

The film follows an emotionally unstable murder suspect being questioned by a few police officers.

Oththa Seruppu Size 7 is a film with only one character on the screen. Off it too, written, directed and acted in by R Parthiban, the film is an unusual occurrence in Indian Cinema.
Since the film has only one character, it is dialogue heavy and Parthiban shines in telling Masilamani’s story qith his wit, quirk and word play.
The film is novel and brave attempt in telling a murder mystery.

8. Irandum Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu (2019)

It features, Selvam, a lorry driver who works for a scrap metal yard, hopes to buy his own lorry and marry his lover Chittu. However, his dreams are disrupted when he ends up with an unexploded bomb.
IUKG wears its heart on its sleeve. The way the director Athiyan Athirai gives this story of an individual a global perspective is fascinating.
In a way, it is a propaganda film disguised as a road movie.
You should definitely give this a watch.

9. Pa Pandi (2017)

Pandi, a retired stuntman, has an arguement and leaves home to find his long-lost love, Poothendral. They meet and Poothendral invites him home for lunch where he ia reunited with his son and grandson.
The film revels in intricate details that are peppered throughout a simple narrative. The screenplay draws from real life.
It is a touching and enjoyable film, that stays with you long after the curtains are drawn.

10. Visaanarai (2015)

Genre :  Thriller/Crime
Imdb :  8.5/10

Pandi and his friends, immigrant workers, are picked up by cops for a crime they never committed. And thus begins their nightmare, where thwy become pawns in a vicious game  where the voiceless are strangled by those with power.
Visaanarai is a hard-hitting, uncompromising and spine chilling account of abuse of power. Based on M Chandrakumar’s novel Lock Up, it unfolds as two neatly divided halves. In fact, for a while, the second half feels like an entirely different film.

This is a must watch for all cinephiles.
